You can earn activity points by filling your profile with information about yourself (what city you live in, your favorite team, blogs etc.)
I should add that I'm aware that moving my cursor over the blank icon box triggers a display of the company's name at the bottom left of my browser, but it's still not as user friendly as having the name situated in or on the icon itself.
