Developing large acreage positions of unconventional and conventional oil and gas resources
I would like to toss in a different angle on this.
As far as we know, the test wells that they (we) are working with now are all deep vertical holes. By perfing, fracing, and flowing a number of stages (4 in this case) along the vertical payzone they are going to see the different characteristics of the payzone (homogeneous, natural fractures, sweet spots, dead spots, etc.).
I'm sure they would do a single stage, flow and test that stage for a few days, run a bridge plug, and then do the next stage further up the hole; repeating the process. Ultimately this may give them a better idea on where/if a horizontal leg (or multi-laterals) would be advantageous.
Once they determine where they are going to extract the gas from, I would imagine that the frac program would change to a one day, multi-stage frac, where they flow all the zones together.
