In Nov 2008, Statoil paid Chesapeake $5,625 per acre ($3.375 billion for 600,000 acres)
Of course the Marcellus shale is a proven play, so it's hard to compare with the Mako trough unproven tight gas play. But out of interest, my calculations show that Falcon got $2,430 per acre for the Exxon JV.
