Over the last forty years the balance of power amongst the producers of the natural gas has changed dramatically with significant political and economic consequences.

While North American production has remained fairly constant, as new production in Russia, Iran and South America has come on line, its share of total global production has fallen sharply.

In this graphic we take a look at those shifts by showing the share of global production contributed by individual countries since 1970.
