Porto (Portugal), 24 oct (EFE) .- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez expressed his willingness to help Portugal, is "going on hard times, after coming to Porto in the last stage of his tour of Europe and the Arab world.

"We come to give our hands, our hearts to Portugal because we have no more to unite to face challenges," said Chavez, saying he has visited this country at the request of his "friend José Socrates, a good man" and that will expand oil supplies to Lisbon.

The Venezuelan president and the prime minister will preside Luso today the signing of several economic agreements with a total volume of business that may be around one billion euros, to supply Lisbon to Caracas, officials said lusas, two ferries, two asfalteros boats and one and half million laptops.

Chavez's visit to Portugal occurs when the Iberian country is experiencing a serious economic crisis that has forced him to adopt strict conservation measures, including wage cuts and suspension of the state's investments to meet the demands of Brussels and relieve pressure markets on its debt.

Chavez, who is scheduled to return today to Venezuela, will visit with Socrates shipyards Viana de Castelo, about 400 kilometers north of Lisbon, where he built boats for his country and the company that assembles computers for school, located in the same region of northern Portugal.

The Venezuelan president was expected last night in Porto, where he organized a heavy security, but finally landed his plane today, shortly before the official time (10.30 GMT) which was scheduled to visit the shipyards.

In Oporto Chávez's international tour concludes almost two weeks that has led him to Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Iran, Libya and Syria and announcing a deal with Moscow to build a nuclear plant in Venezuela.

The short stay in Portugal is focused on signing economic agreements that extend the already concluded in the last three years in Lisbon and also cover the provision of housing prefrabricadas, electrical equipment and contracts for oil change lusos products.
