Bloomberg's response to my email

posted on May 10, 2008 01:51PM

I decided to email the Bloomberg reporter, Steven Bodzin, to get a better feel for the story and get some level of confidence that, "The decision will be made in the coming week, "Environment Minister Yubiri Ortega said late yesterday in an interview at the presidential palace." To my surprise he did respond. While I did re-reply to his email for further confirmation (no response back as of the time of this post) as to what he was hearing on the streets etc about the probablity of permits being issued I did not get a strong response on that front only because he did not comment. We still have some semblance of confidence that at least the comment quoted above was made and now we wait to see if there is any follow through from the minister and/or Mr. Chavez. At this point we have nothing to lose and more to gain so lets give it a chance to develope hopefully in our favour. Below is the email response:

Re-reply:

Thanks Steve for your quick response! Just two last questions if I may, did you pose the questions to Ortega based on anything in particular or did Ortega offer the comments unsolicited to which you subsequently reported your story. And how confident are you about this quote: ``The decision will be made in the coming week,'' Environment Minister Yubiri Ortega said late yesterday in an interview at the presidential palace.”(Ie. In VZ when a minister makes this comment, what is the probability that it will be acted on as quoted?)

Thanks again….XXXX -----Original Message-----

Subject: Re:Chavez to Decide This Week on Crystallex, Gold Reserve Permits Hi xxxx, all good questions. Unfortunately I wrote everything I know. If Sanz had been there I would have asked for his opinion. I'm hearing nothing on the streets; this isn't a big topic of conversation here. And I have no idea what Chavez will do. Sorry I can't be more help. -Steven----- Original Message -----

At: 5/10 16:00:21Hi Steve,Were you at the presidential palace when the interview with Yubiri Ortega took place? I was very curious about this line in your report: "Ortega said Chavez will decide whether to grant permits after consulting with her and Minister of Basic Industries and Mining Rodolfo Sanz." If I read it correctly would you say that Ortega is opposed for environmental reasons and that Sanz is in favor of the permits being issued? Was Mr. Sanz also present during the interview and did he comment on the subject as you reported. And what are you hearing on the streets about the permits being denied and revoked in the first place? Does it not strike you as something very unusal occurring here? And do you think Mr. Chavez will respond and whether or not he is positive or negative on both Crystallex and Gold Reserves?

Thanks in advance.
