Right on CJR. The logical solution, of course, would be to concentrate and strictly control the mining in km 88 with the big cahoona being Las Cristinas\Brisas...offering many jobs, environmental control, state revenue, etc. Some artisinals could be located nearby...with training\supervision\environmental controls courtesy of KRY\GRZ. I also like your idea about giving the artisenal miners older mines in various areas nearing the end of of their productive life (Hecla?). The infrastructure has been put in place in Km 88. This can be further developed to support the growing mining presence. In terms of how this is all going down....Sanz knew that however he handled the whole mining issue....given the artisenals, the big international mining companies, the environmental concerns, etc.....that all hell would break loose when 'the plan' was incrementally divulged to the public...you can't make all of the people happy all of the time. So with the recent turn of events...where does this leave us? At this point your average miner just wants to know he will have a job plying his trade. Compared to the threat of shutting down all mining in the Caroni Basin...having a job working for foreign imperialists doesn't sound too bad...especially when an independent role is provided for the artisenals. Could this be the PR strategy being employed by Sanz to 'sell' his reorganization of the mining sector to all concerned parties? Who knows.
