Protecting the Environment

Sanz said that there are other realities in the Region which are necessary to monitor, as mine development, specifically in the extraction of gold and diamonds because they are not granted permits to exploit the land, while ecological damage is irreversible.

"There is no justification to receive a significant income to exploit land, causing significant damage to the environment and even social component that surrounds this activity," said Sanz.

In this connection, Sanz informed that he has sent a contingent of about 24 people to the area of Pijiguaos, with the aim of identifying the major problems of population caused by industrial development at the site, and to give an immediate solution, as in the prompt installation of an aqueduct and not make people use contaminated water and lack of a treatment plant.

"We must move beyond the concept of generating wealth, regardless of the social cost that generates, impoverishing families and not providing basic services for their normal development," said Sanz. However, he called the Governor of Bolivar State to work together in solving the problems presented by the Pijiguaos Area.

Sanz also stressed the importance of providing the inhabitants of areas like Pijiguaos and La Paragua, a replacement productive activity, as is the case with the already approved maize plant in La Paragua, which has already been approved since last year an investment of 15 billion bolivars strong.
