CUU own 25% Schaft Creek: proven/probable min. reserves/940.8m tonnes = 0.27% copper, 0.19 g/t gold, 0.018% moly and 1.72 g/t silver containing: 5.6b lbs copper, 5.8m ounces gold, 363.5m lbs moly and 51.7m ounces silver; (Recoverable CuEq 0.46%)
This thread was started by Spitfire who asked how we thought the new government would affect Schaft Creek among other things. I've done some work to try and find out from the source (it actually only took about 30 seconds.)
Just calling someone a basher is not really an argument.
Those words by Geoff Regan are real and they are on topic and they show me, at least, that we might be in for more oversight and that can not help us get the EA permit. We don't know if he will be the Minister for the Environment but he has a long history in the portfolio in the government and very likely is representative of their views.
"To say, for example, that you’re only concerned about bodies of water that contain commercially-fished species means you’re not actually concerned with the true environmental impact — you’re only concerned with the economic impact."
We've always defended our environmental assessment by saying that there are no fish. It appears from this statement that the Liberals might want more details about all bodies of water, fish or no fish, and that includes Schaft Creek. I don't know how much of an impact that will have on our timing or need for baseline reports. Maybe nothing but it is a valid concern.
The reason I brought up the International Joint Commission is because Elmer and I have discussed it on at least two occasions. It is a concern for our project, and all projects in BC. We don't want Alaska having oversight on our projects in Canada. Already we consult with them as a courtesy but the IJC can make rulings that we are bound by.
We urgently need our EA to be at least submitted. I hope Teck moves forward quickly.
