Hey Web,
Just a couple things. The Summer Doldrums in mining will not stop a major acquisition. Too many majors have too much money and have been looking for purchases for a while. This summer will be boring for many but not for CUU !
Now the downside for Teck investors on the Galore can be softened with a CUU purchase. I think the CUU decision will not be delayed but rather expedited. They will be starting to have to field uncomfortable questions from their Chinese investors and a good news story better be on the menu.
I would think the other major producers are quite enjoying the pressure put onto Teck. Would there be some legal means that they could raise to force Teck's decisions on both Galore and CUU? ie. To suggest that Teck's ability to service both operations is financially untenable and thereby "in the interest of all concerned" they get off the pot?
I seem to remember reading some pretty amazing stuff these majors brought up before the courts back in 2005/2006 over the Inco/FalconbridgeXstrata/Teck deal.
Dont rule anything out.
Fire.
