Camino Rojo Mexico : In-situ - 4.0 million ounces gold; 68.32 million ounces of silver.
I asked the question too and guessed...I put it to a bit of bad luck, drill crews drilling in new ground, a rig breaking down, bad site specfic ground condiitons, a rig not suited to the ground conditions... I really don't know. I would imagine everyone is doing all they can to increase the rate of success, even calling in a more substantial rig. Pure guesses, lots of ways to lose a string of holes.
They did bring in some nice results too, core is in hand!! A successful oxide zone geotechnical core was drilled and is being evaluated, we have a glimpse into the deep levels on the west of the deposit and the company is adjusting their approach as they gain experience... no worries in my opinion.
I rechecked the Penasquito 2P reserves and only 6% are classified as intrusive suggesting most volcanic level (to 1000 m) intrusive is unbrecciated or unmineralized. As Been There suggested, the zones next to the intrusive are likely to be intensly broken up with enriched gold values.
