June 02, 2008
With a level similar to the rate achieved last April, closed the business confidence indicator (ECI) May. This indicator, measured by the consultancy Deloitte, reached 89 points compared with the 90.9 earned during the month predecessor.
According to the sample, one of the major concerns of the business sector is the strong growth in inflation so far this year. This item accumulated 5.18% in the first four months of the year.
57% of those surveyed by Deloitte believes that inflation will continue its upward trend and shows little optimism that this be reduced.
Consulted about the economic prospects of the country, 62% of respondents had a less encouraging when compared with the previous month. This despite the high price of oil, which reached a record $ 131.03 per barrel in late May. Another worrying factor among entrepreneurs is the low level of investment. According to the survey, 79% of employers believed that the country's socio-economic environment does not have the conditions necessary to attract higher FDI flows.
