Others like Acosta? Well it doesn't matter as he has given in to reason. We won't hear much more from him on the subject except for environmentalists keeping an eye on things for which I encourage anyway.

The fly in the ointment (as always) is the Radical Greens. They will turn on Acosta just as quickly as they turned on Patrick Moore and James Lovelock. You have to realize that in their minds they are fighting the Battle For Planet Earth. It's an apocalyptic ideology every bit as virulent as communism, and just as detached from reality.

One effect of their activism is to drive resource companies out of places where environmental controls have a chance of being implemented, to places where they don't even exist, in effect hastening the decline of the very thing they've sworn to protect. How much green activism is China going to put up with in their struggle for vital resources?

Here's one prediction you can make with 100% certainty: As the price of oil and everything else goes through the roof, Greens will be seen as part of the problem. All talk of sustainablity and renewable energy will fly out the window when there's no gas at the pumps, and no food on the shelves.
