"We are noting that pro-mining demonstrations have already taken place and many more are planned. In addition, the major indigenous group in Zamora-Chinchipe province, where our concessions are, have taken out a full-page ad in the major newspaper in Ecuador, with a letter to Alberto Acosta. In it, they express their concern at the potential because of the Mining Mandate for 1,000 Shuar people to lose good jobs and a bright future they had because of their work with responsible mining companies. Now that mining is threatened directly, the pro-mining forces are starting to organize and make their voices heard. This will put pressure on the government to resolve this problem sooner rather than later."
