The company whose shareholders were better than its management
I think many agree that management were blindsided by this occurence.
The whole thing doesnt make a lot of sense because ecuador could have grabbed a bigger piece of the pie via the stability agreement
I think most agree that managements response to the situation from a PR perspective was poor and showed a lack of experience.
Its amazing their first news release included a spanish attachment. I was told they didnt have someone to translate it. (For christ sakes this is a company operating exclusively in a spanish country for the last 5 years and they couldnt get a reliable transaltion, ebear, please send them your phone number)
What I would like to see now is what are they going to be doing on a go forward basis. A so called "next 180 days and 365 days agenda"
I would like to hear an internet broadcast from PA that talks about a plan and that breaks it down something like.
1. we have a meeting monday with the mines minister to sort out so and so.
2. We will issue a statement on this meeting at the following time
3. We will contiunue to do so and so
4. drilling will resume at this date
5. the status of the 43-101 will come out before the following date
6. the scoping study status is blah, blah balh
7. the legal recourse open to the company in the event we get screwed out of some assets is.
8. what support if any we can expect of Canadian govt (Joke)
9. We will collectively lobby with DMM and CTQ and etc, etc, to achieve the following.
I think if they can produce an action plan quickly and then follow it up we can continue to let PA lead. (Better than the board firing him at this time)
Somehow, a message needs to comeout that the Ecuadorian govt understands that a business needs a decent ROI if they are going to invest. Correa needs to acknowledge that the ROI people will now expect from ecuador will be even higher than lets say a canada or Chili based on these shenanigans.
I think failure of the mgmt team to be able to muster up a good plan and prove they have built relationships in this country should lead to new leadership.
They were likely blindsided. They dont need to talk about it as a surprise anymore. Lets move on and talk about how we can move forward and find out if this group can still lead us to getting some shareholder value (assuming this is possible). If they cant do this then we need to get a new mgmt team and see where they can direct things.
