One thing occurs to me. With all the money flying about, you'd think they'd have set up some sort of charitable foundation within Ecuador.

I'll just add that a foundation, funded by mining co's in the area (Zomora-Chinchipe), formalizes the social works aspect under one roof which can then optimize resources on a regional basis, rather than on the ad-hoc basis of each company's individual program.
I'd also like to see a mining school established.
