If I was starting over ... I sure wish I qualified to get a job working at Canada Post.
If you have any self respect or personal ambition you won't last a week. Back in 1974 I spent a summer working for the federal govt. in Ottawa. The job was a complete joke. Working at a pace considered normal by private industry standards I was finished by noon. I made the mistake of asking for other work to fill out my afternoons and was actually threatened by my co-workers for making them look bad (told 'em to F'off). After a month of this stupidity I decided to quit and gave 2 weeks notice. That freaked them out completely - seems they had to post the job internally for a month before they could even advertise outside the agency. We're talking about the lowest paid job in the place here - building services. What insider is going to bid on that when they're already working above that pay scale?
Used to be that job security, benefits and a pension went with government work precisely because it paid LESS than the private sector. That was the original argument. Now we have unionized public employees negotiating with other unionized (or professional association) public employees over wages and benefits? Tell me that isn't a conflict of interest.
Feh.... I better not say anymore - I already feel my blood pressure starting to rise.
