OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) _ Wi-Lan Inc. (WILN) on Wednesday reported a first-quarter loss of $4.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Ottawa, Ontario-based company said it had a loss of 4 cents. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs and non-recurring costs, were 6 cents per share.

The patent holding company posted revenue of $20.4 million in the period.

The company's shares closed at $2.47. A year ago, they were trading at $2.98.
