If Tyson sells chickens that are labeled "Certified Organic", you can bet your bottom drumstick that they are organic.
Most of the debate has not been about Organic labeling, but rather "Antibiotic-free". The debate is over the recent Department of Agriculture ruling that it considers ionophores (currently used as coccidiostats) to be anti-biotics, even though they have a completely different action than synthetic antibiotics, and have not been linked with antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Tyson has until the end of December to change the label to something that clarifies the distinction and specifically addresses antibiotic-resistant bacteria concerns.
