The volume of bids is important as far as a show of interest. The more important figure is the ask's and as long as the askers keep the price a penny above the bids the price will have to rise..if the bidders are anywhere serious. You will find tire kickers in any business.

When a stock price is relativelly stable as this one has been you can put in a bid a little lower to see if someone gets bored and decides to quit the stock. That being said dont wait too long to meet the ask.
