Between 1987 and 1996, 79% of all firearm-related deaths were suicides. During this period, approximately 28% of all suicides involved firearms, or an average of 1,030 firearm suicides per year

My other half is a hunter and I learned this through a Canadian Firearms Safety course. Any responsible gun owner should have at least this one course under their belt. You should at least know how to safely unload and properly store the gun.
Due to the above statistics, I would not be too concerned about gun related death that is unless you are suicidal.
