Primed got me thinking about nuclear power and Rinky about storing Co2 underground. Why couldn't one use abandoned or mined out Uranium mines to store or discard spent nuclear fuel rods? ( not sure of proper terminology) Thats where the uranium came from naturally then why not put it back where it came from. There's likely a lot I dont know about the spent rods but its a thought!! I actually went on a 500 mile (round trip) fishing trip by boat from Fort McMurray to Lake Athabasca 5 different times now. We usually stopped in to visit the old Gunner Mine site where they mined Uranium. Very interesting. The Uranium was low grade and had to be barged out. Uranium was then discovered on the south side of the Lake with road access and Gunner and Uranium City died an instant death. The buildings and everything including their paper work was simply dropped and everyone left. Mill buildings, dormatories, Bowling alleys, school , everything for a small townsite just dropped and abandoned. I rifled through some paper work that show they were finding small amounts of gold as well. I wasn't involved in gold back then and payed little attention to it.
