A little about Goldcorps Red Lake Mine.

"

Our Canadian cornerstone, the world’s richest gold mine.

Located in one of the world’s most prolific gold districts, Red Lake is Goldcorp’s top producer, yielding 507,700 ounces in 2012. The High Grade Zone is the backbone of the Red Lake operation, with an average grade of more than two ounces of gold per tonne. Recent investments in infrastructure and development have positioned this renowned mine for many more years of long-term sustainable production."

Mining, all underground, is carried out using three main mining methods—underground overhand cut and fill, underhand cut and fill, and longhole—allowing maximum ore extraction. The high-grade zone, which primarily consists of a narrow vein system, is mined at the rate of 635 tons per day with an average grade of over 68 grams per tonne (two ounces per ton). The high-grade mineralization and complex geometry of the ore body require specialized operations expertise.
