Keep in mind, the opinions on this site are for the most part speculation and are not necessarily the opinions of the company WITHOUT PREJUDICE
Its good to see pension funds standing up for their clients. But what if they vote and the CEO says their vote don,t count?
Seven of Canada’s largest pension funds and one international entity are voicing their concern about the $11.9 million signing bonus Barrick Gold (TSX, NYSE: ABX) handed out to its co-chairman, John Thornton, last year.
In a statement the group said it will vote against members of the gold company’s compensation committee at next week’s annual meeting.

I notice that the " Canada Pension Plan Investment Board,", which manages pension funds and is invested in Barrick, ( "The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) manages, as of June 30, 2012, over $165.8 billion in investment assets for the Canada Pension Plan on behalf of eighteen million Canadians.[1]")

So part of your pension, be it .05, or what ever, is invested in Barrick, cool! I own a small portion of Barrick that I never knew!.I should have a right or a vote to administer in this case? This $11.9 million signing bonus seems a little high, I don,t know what his salary is, but I wish I knew what he actually does to be awarded such a pay? That mans signing bonus is more than our whole company,s market cap at this time, unbelievable what some people make, lol.Wasn,t it said awhile ago, perhaps a couple years ago, that the Canada Pension Plan was in trouble? But here is a link that says its ok.

Below is a sad story, but found it while looking for info about the pension funds, and thought some may find it interesting.
