That is a very good question, and I think it has been answered many times since the incomplete NR came out. The market reacted the way it did because the NR never did clarify that it was overburden samples rather than the anomoly samples.

So the bashers and shorters created IMPATIENCE and PANIC to purposly drive the SP down, and stole everybody shares at huge discounts. They implied that the results were the anomoly, and people got IMPATIENT waiting for clarification, and started selling off in large volumes.

This in turn created PANIC, and everyone started dumping shares, wanting not to be the last guy holding shares that may be worthless. Very manipulative. They do this for a living, and don't care who they hurt in the least. Money driven GREED.
