Short selling by itself is not bad. What is bad is stock manipulation. They do not have be the same. In our case with SLI I am happy to to have those that want short the stock. If the news shows as most of us our anticipating, the shorts will scrambling to cover and pushing our price higher.

Restricting shorting is just more influence of the Government in our lives. The politicians have trouble keeping their own houses in order. IMO
