The Structural Setting is Permissive: Wrench Fault Tectonics Lead to a Fabulous Setting
for Large Gold Deposits
(Appendix E)
Aurelian has proposed a pull-apart basin model for the FDN deposit. A pull-apart basin is essentially
the product of strike-slip wrench fault tectonics where a kink in the fault system leads to the
lateral growth of space (extension) and the development of a basin. The reason this is important
is that whereas the fault system may tap into gold-bearing fl uids, the manifestation of a pull-apart
basin actually provides the space for veins to develop and gold to precipitate in large volumes
