Peru’s mining investment rose 50% to US$327 million in January

Lima, Mar. 20 (ANDINA). In January, the mining investment in Peru totalled 327 million dollars, an increase of 50 percent compared to the same period last year (218 million), the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) said Sunday.
According to MEM’s monthly report, most of the investment was focused on the generation of new job opportunities (153, 977) which exceed the figures obtained last year (135, 015).
Furthermore, the investment registered in January was also focused on the mining deposits located in 20 regions.
In Cusco, the investment reached 74 million dollars, representing 22.53 percent. The investment in Cajamarca and Ancash reached 51 million dollars (15.72 percent) and 38 million dollars (11.52 percent) respectively.
Furthermore, the investment in Arequipa was 28 million dollars (8.49 percent) and 26 million dollars (8.02 percent) in Pasco.
