Tesoro is a barren desert plateau with next to no environmental issues It is not in a park or reserve.

When SLI purchased Tesoro there were local Informale miners on the property, basically stealing surface gold . They were familiar with being kicked off of properties but when SLI found them on their property they hired them to hand mine rather than kick them off. They paid them more than they were making before. As well during the earth quake several years ago SLI helped some locals rebuild some of their buildings. SLI is well liked in Peru.
