Mantis Mineral Corp. Reports sulphide mineralized quartz veins

TORONTO, May 26 /CNW/ - Mantis Mineral Corp. ("Mantis" - CNQ "MINE") is extremely pleased to announce that diamond drilling is currently underway on its Orphan Mine project located 9-kilometers east of Kodiak's 'Golden Mile' in the Beardmore-Geraldton area and visible gold was encountered. As of this release, 667-meters of a 3,000-meter program, of BWT (42mm diameter) coring has been completed in 4-drill holes. All holes to date have intersected sulphide mineralized quartz veins. Significantly, hole OMV08-1 intersected the Orphan 'Main Vein' at a vertical depth of 135-meters and subsidiary veins further down in which visible gold was noted in two of the subsidiary veins. Along this hole a 0.75-meter section of quartz carrying 5% pyrite, minor chalcopyrite and molybdenite was visible in the core. Molybdenite mineralization is especially important, as its association in many gold systems is an indicator of higher grade. Beyond the 'Main vein' a pyrite alteration halo is associated with this vein and was observed along a 29-meter core length. These halos can add significantly to the grade-width of a gold bearing vein system. At the fringe of this zone from 212.35 metres to 213.45 metres, visible gold was encountered. In terms of significantly mineralized quartz, the best intersection has come from OMV08-4, in which a pyritic quartz vein was encountered for a 3.5-meter drill length. This intersection represents the down-dip extension of the Orphan 'Main Vein' 30-meters below the 80 metre level and the bottom of the original mine shaft. This hole is currently in the process of being logged, therefore the extent and presence of a pyrite halo in association with this vein has not been determined as of this release. The initial diamond drilling is concentrated at the Orphan mine site. A total of six holes are scheduled for this area, totaling 1,000-meters. The remainder of the drill program will focus on the hitherto un-explored 'Foisey Vein System' located along trend of the Orphan 'Main Vein'. 11-holes totaling 2,000-meters are earmarked to test this system. All mineralized core intersections are being cut in half by diamond saw. Half the core is retained for reference, while the other half is being trucked to ALS Chemex Laboratory in Thunder Bay for analysis. Caracle Creek International Consultants have been retained as Quality Assurance and Control for the program. Results are pending. Commented Walter Hanych, chief project geologist and the qualified person for all technical information in this release, "we are extremely encouraged by results to date. Although assays are pending the fact that visible gold was intersected in the first hole and that mineralized quartz veins were encountered below the main shaft and in every hole to date, bodes well confirming the main vein is open at depth." Walter Hanych has reviewed and approved all technical information in this release. About Mantis Mineral Corp.
