Interesting stats. Let's do some math (please correct if I mess it up) to get some perspective.

-3.3 tonnes Au = ~0.1 Moz Au (3 tonnes sound big, but 0.1M oz (a tiny Au deposit) does not sound that extraordinary), = $0.125B = $125M (which sounds smaller than $0.125B, it's just me)

- $125M/100M cell phones = ~$1.25/cell phone.

So, we throw away ~$1/year in the recycling bin = 1 cup of coffee...and some gabage collectors will make say 40% (just a number) of $125M = $50M/yr (some cool cash, and it would certainly beat any 9-5 job in a comfy office).
