I always told Karen this would be a 20 mil oz deposit..Rosehill

On Thursday, we were joined by veteran junior mining stock-watcher, John Kaiser, who runs a fee-based research site, Kaiser Bottom-Fish Online.

He has three stock ideas for us: Probe Mines Ltd. (PRB-X 2.05 -0.05 -2.38%), Midas Gold (MAX-T 0.83 -0.05 -5.68%) and Peregrine Diamonds (PGD-T 0.65 -0.02 -2.99%).

Probe's focus is the Borden Gold Project, near Chapleau, ON, about a four-hour drive north of Sault Ste. Marie. The shares were up 78% in a year to trade at $2.09 Wednesday.

The company says it's sitting on more than four-million ounces of gold. It had considered a conventional open-pit mine, but in 2012 found rock with gold grades that were 5-10 times higher, which could turn into an underground mine.

Kaiser reckons there's a chance Probe could develop a "new mining district" outcome where the company "could end up controlling 10-20 million ounces in the form of medium-grade gold deposits, which would make the stock far more valuable than the $4-$5 target one could hope for, based on a positive preliminary economic assessment for the Borden deposit alone at gold prices below $1,600 US."

In a commentary on the company he writes that "such a blue sky outcome would have far-reaching implications for exploration in Ontario because it would stir memories of Hemlo, a 20-million oz medium-grade gold system discovered in 1982 through the dogged determination of Murray Pezim who chose to ignore the geological consensus that the Hemlo area would never yield anything better than the gold dribs and drabs found in prior decades."
