I won't argue that having a nice stable source for chromite is a good thing for Cliffs, and I think that it the only real reason that they are looking at it. As you can see from the picture below, the price of chrome has held steady, despite the threat of South African mines being nationalized, as well as the recession.

However, Canada is not the only up and coming source of chromite. Khazakstan, India and Turkey.
