Derivatives, short selling, missrepresentation of dept instruments (ABCP) are all sytoms of a breakdown in morals....... If our western lifestyle is to continue .... the moral atttitude needs to change. Short selling is selling something you don't own and was to be a cert that was borrowed... that was the concept.
it has evolved into selling shares that don't exist... a radiclly diffent concept and a moral issue..... Why does the government allow "Naked short" to perpetuate the downward spiral...When the government shows no intention of dealing with the issue, all investments become risky.... even profitable companies solid companies can come under attack.
Borrowing " good"
Naked... "bad"
The same attitude and complacency is what has allowed the subprime fleecing within the worlds banking, financial insitutions, companies, pension plans etc etc etc
They need to linch a few of the perpetuators of such schemes.... but most of all they need to enforce regulations to prevent similare meltdowns from happening.
In the case of Naked shorts it is stealing the potential profits of the investors... and allowing the non investors to handicap companies and manipulate markets..... It is downright theft!
