Message: The newly elected members of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI)

Please forgive me, but I had to chuckle at this one, since we're in the throws of birth pains - newly elected officials? Where have we heard this before? Oh, in the MOT. Kind of sounds like our government. I know, I'm being critical, but to print a new deed? Hope for good news this week.

By Kaushalendra Singh — SALALAH — The newly elected members of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) Salalah Chapter reiterated their resolve to work as a bridge between the business community and the government and extend maximum co-operation in cases where their business issues have any clash with the policies. The newly elected members were also given the responsibilities of various committees during the first meeting after the elections held in the first week of February. The meeting was held under the auspices of Abdullah bin Salim Mahad al Rawas, Head of OCCI branch in the Governorate of Dhofar.

Among the specialised committees, which give sector-wise representation to the business community are: economic, financial sector and banking, insurance and finance, food security, real estate development, investment promotion, services, tourism, industry and mines sector, human resources and labour market development and transport. Two other important committees are businesswomen forum and small and medium enterprises. “The specialised committees at the OCCI are the windows to its members to identify the problems being faced by the private sector and offer solution. Through these committees, the Chamber carries out its activities. Thus it is necessary to have a set of regulations governing the work of these committees. The committees also play significant role in boosting the economic and commercial activities in the country,” said Al Rawas.

He put emphasis on the role of the government and private institutions in developing the community to achieve stability and social justice and corporate social responsibility is an important obligation of all the companies in strengthening the community. The role of the specialised OCCI committees becomes important in the wake of the OCCI Board’s recent decision to grant financial and administrative powers for all branches in the governorates. The committee responsibilities were distributed among elected members for OCCI Salalah chapter — Ali bin Ahmed bin Saeed al Rawas, Abdullah bin Salem bin Muhad al Rawas, Salim bin Abdullah bin Salem al Kaaf, Said bin Ahmed bin Bakhit al Jafali, Nassar bin Ahmed bin Salem al Marhoon, Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Said bin al Sanah al Mashaikhi, Sultan bin Ali bin Ahmed al Hadhary, Hussein bin Hathith bin Mayouf al Bathari, Mohammed bin Tamman bin Salim al Mashani, Abdullah bin Said bin Tuwaib Akak and Muammar bin Hussein bin Abdul Ilah al Yafai.
