Due to the scale of operations related to open-pit heap leach gold mines, it is sometimes difficult to express the magnitude of changes that take place over periods of a few weeks. This is so because things are rather large and the changes usually happen in several different parts of the mine rather than in one or two places. The concerted effort of building new leach pads at Lluvia de Oro is an exception that merits special comment in this bi-weekly report.

Last week, the ridges of compacted earth that separate individual leach cells in the new SW-1 and SW-2 leach pads were clearly visible in our monthly topographic survey of construction progress. Starting this week, the brown color of newly placed foundation material for the new leach pads has begun to turn black - with installment of 80-mil HDPE plastic liner on the engineered foundation. Now the progress of construction is quite noticeable, because large portions of individual cells get the plastic cover on a daily basis.

Impermeable HDPE plastic liner has been placed over the completed earthworks of cell #3 in the SW-1 leach pad area in a matter of days. Plastic for Cell #2 (beyond the white truck) will be next. Pad SW-2 is in the upper-left portion of the photo. View is toward the west.

New ore stacking on the old leach pad continues to occur in the available portion of Area 789. New ore is being placed behind the buttress strip reported in the October 13 report. This new ore results from our selective mining technique that helps to eliminate waste rock from the Creston ore body. The progress of “dump and dozer push” loading of new gold ore can be observed by comparing this image from November 9 with future bi-weekly reports.

Initial loading of pad Area 789 has begun in the northwest corner of the pad space. Continued loading of ore will progress from right to left across this image with successive strips of ore until the area in this view is filled. View is to the north.Drilling and blasting of new ore is taking place in several parts of the Creston Pit. This view shows current work in the northeast portion of the pit. View is to the northeast.

The Exploration Department has concluded the second phase of reverse-circulation drilling in the NE Extension of Creston Pit. Drill samples have been obtained and submitted to the laboratory for analysis. A report on the success of this drilling will be forthcoming after review and correlation with drill chip logging information.

The core drill is currently working in the NE Extension area, testing new targets. Additional exploration targets have been defined in the El Cobre West and Lluvia Dos areas. An interim report on the results of recent core drilling is in progress and will be reported soon.
