Yes, something like that.  Channel sampling is an economical alternative way to investigate for targeted mineralization, which may be at or relatively near the surface.  And, yes, jasperoid is suggestive of the presence of PMs.  You may see red traces of it in the picture we have of the Hay Mountain drill core.

But like quartz, one may find a lot more jasperoid than precious metals.
