So- one technological breakthrough seems to be solid state batteries. Toyota- not some fly by nite flash in the pan- is touting these coming  into production in the next couple of years- starting with the high enders like Lexus. This looks to have 500+ mile ranges- farther than most tanks of gas- and- very short charging times- not much more than the time to fill up a tank. I think the main issues are dendritic cracks in the substrate and then shorting out the electrodes- limiting how many cycles you can get. But reportedly the recharge number limitation as well as manufacturing issues is what they're claiming to have worked out. How real and actually imminent this is- time will tell. I think I also saw a Chinese company- maybe BY-something is also already coming out with a car with a solid state battery. So- if all this is true- it seems like it will address some of the EV drawbacks and may reinvigorate the EV market. And I believe the solid state battery cars still use a lot of copper.
