When a bubble begins to lose air or burst, everything takes a hit - precious metals and precious metals miners too. However, these are the first to recover after getting pushed down on margin calls and other immediate needs for investors to raise cash in a falling market. Then they recover on the "safe harbor" needs of those left standing. Later on, forward-looking investors begin to take positions in base metals - particularly copper - in anticipation of the inevitable recovery. At that time, both base and precious metals post gains.
These are just economic facts of life. Every bust and every recovery are different in their own way, but they most always have these common elements.
Be careful out there; things looking to get rocky for a while.
