while I'm waiting around . . . .I have looked over the Hay Mtn. topo maps before.  I just found a site with the various previous year's versions.  The 1957 version has two "oil wells" notated west of HM.  I had never seen those before & wonder if they were actually mineral exploration holes.  It appears that the features (as well as a sw trending pipeline a bit farther west) were dropped after publication of the 1996 version.
