Analysis of the minerals in teeth can be used to determine the approximate birthplace for human remains.  This comes about from the water that that person drank as a child as the trace mineral content of water varies from place to place, but concentrates in teeth as the child grows.  The discovery has been used to trace human migration patterns across the globle.  I've read about this in regards to burials in England as having Nors or Roman origins, and "Otzi", the Iceman discovered in the Italian alps, was found to have an Austrian homeland by this method.
