Kind'a OT, but when I last visited Tombstone, I was with JB when he pointed out the vacant lot where Josephine Marcus lived.  He did this following my mention that I was distantly related to her as my father's first cousin was married to her niece.  Family would sometimes talk about her, but none ever met Wyatt.

Josephine was Wyatt Earp's third wife, and they are buried together a few feet from the graves of my g-grand parents in Colma, CA.*

Some historians and others like to say the Josephine was a prostitute.  That was not the case.  She was a spoiled and rebellious child who ran off with a troupe of actors, leaving them after they stopped in Tombstone.  At that point, her father, a prominent baker, began supporting her, and even sent her the money to buy the home in Tombstone where she lived first with Sheriff Behan, and then with Wyatt.  It survived 'til it burned about 10 years ago.

When Josephine died in San Francisco, her family found among other things in an old trunk, Wyatt's badge and six gun from his Tombstrone days.

By the way, the provocative photo widely circulated as Josephine as a young woman is not her.  The features in that face are very much different from the photo's of Josephine when she and Wyatt lived in San Diego and Los Angeles.

A more interesting story is that of Virgil Earp and the real full story surrounding his first marriage.

* I've seen that plot quite a number of times over my life, and will see it again in December as I return to that cemetary for a memorial service.  Josephine and Wyatt's burials used to be marked with a simple. flat layingly slab engraved only with their names, birth and death years.  That was replaced in the 90's by a Hollywood producer.  It is the most visited grave site in the San Francisco Bay Area.
