Greenspan has always supported a return to the gold standard, but he has never been in a postion to do anything about it. That's up to congress.

As chair of the Fed, his job in that non-governement entity was keep the system afloat, not take it apart. He did his job as best he could, and is no hypocrite.

Interestingly, too, he was close friends with Ayn Rand.
