Oh, a bit of history here too that may help your appreciation of water availability in the Hay Mountain area, which is just a few miles from Tombstone.

The decline in mining (underground) at Tombstone toward the end of the 19th Century began as water in the mines increased with depth. Most discouragingly, this was about the time that grades being encountered were at their highest.

The technology then available did not not save mines from closing/consolidating/refinancing before massive newly designed pumps could be brought in to keep up with the overabundance of water. Around this time Tombstone had become close to being a ghost town from the lack on mining activity, but the new investments in machinery brought it back to life.

However, ore grades declined quickly as the mines went deeper, and they were all soon out of business, despite having the best pumps in the world.
