These conferences were highly anticipated events both for investors and miners. They were, of course, promotional events, but they were also used by institutional fund raisers, so important meetings would happen concurrently with public events - money would be raided, JVs would be done, etc.
These had been going on for at least 25-30 years and all across the country in major cities like San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami and NYC. They were two day events filled with company presentations, economic forcasts, newletter writer meet 'n greet sessions, investment advisor sessions and "display" rooms full of IR reps and company officers - thousands of people.
And they were fun, too, at least in my experince.
The Financial Crisis changed the rules for institutions, and forced retail investors to change their tolerance for risk. These facts, in my opinion, ended the viability of the conferences associated with the group linked above. Too bad.
FWW
