Message: Anantomy of Porphyry Deposits

Here's some text that may be of interest to a few here. However, I think most will find the illustrations to be quite helpful in understanding the complexity and variety of porphyry-related metals deposits.

To place figure 1 into the context of the California, Nevada, Arizona Basin and Range mountain building system, just imagine multiple versions of the illustraction spreading from the Pacific Ocean across the Mohave, Sonoran and part of the Chihuahuan Deserts. Note that most of this area encompases the lower elevations in Arizona. [By the way, this system is unique in the word, if I recall correctly.]

Now take a look at figure 2 for a better grasp of just how geologically complex are porphryr-related metals deposits. So, when someone like JB talks about complexity and adds the word "folding", this figure becomes simple by comparison. Also note just how much real estate may be involved in such a system, and how many occurances of economic minerals there may be. ...Hay Mountain may be a porthyry-related deposit, but it is only one within a larger system. Hence the need to investigate and possibly acquire other claims.

I will not even attempt to bring Caldera Theory into this discussion. Suffice it to say that Southern Arizona is "elephant country".
