Message: Clarification on Member Conduct – Impersonation

Dear members.

Thank you for your participation within the AGORACOM Community. In light of recent events we'd like to clarify the following procedure on member conduct, with specific regards to impersonation:

When creating your accounts, a user may choose to represent themselves using an alias. However, since receiving reports that a member has created an account and the Community suspects that this individual is impersonating a person or entity, or falsely states or otherwise misrepresents the entity, or an affiliate with any person or entity.

Following this report a review of the accounts activity commenced to determine whether or not the account was created as a parody of the person or entity, and/or is protected by free speech, or if this account was created to represent a real individual who is not the entity stated. To be specific, our assistance was required to determine if the user operating the AGORACOM account "jerrio" was indeed a popular web blogger or not.

Taking in to account the nature of the comments, the use of identical avatars and cross referencing the posting history our full review has determined that the user behind the AGORACOM account "jerrio" was indeed not the entity they claimed to be, and as such has been terminated from our forums.

We would like to thank everyone for bringing this to our attention and for your tact approach in this sensitive matter.

Kind Regards,

AGORACOM
