The number of people using voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology will be close to 300 million by the end of 2013, according to a new study. Research completed by In-Stat suggests the VoIP market will touch 288 million by the end of the period.
In addition, mobile VoIP solutions will create a market worth $35.2 billion (£23.4 billion). This is largely due to the projected growth in the use of VoIP by business travellers across the world - especially in the Asia-Pacific region.
In-Stat analyst Frank Dickson says: "The near-term opportunity for mobile VoIP is closely linked with the growing success of dual-mode phones and other Wi-Fi connected devices."
One vendor which could be set to benefit greatly from the increased demand for VoIP applications is snom.
snom recently announced that it had been awarded the prestigious Highly Commended status by the Internet Telephony Services Providers' Association. The title was earned after significant advances in the company's latest VoIP technology.
