Management (Capital) wants as much work done for as little pay as possible and Labor (Unions) presses the worker to do as little as possible for as much pay as possible. Management's motive is obvious.The Unions have an interest in their philosophy because it invariably causes more hiring and thus enriches the Union coffers through increased membership (see "featherbedding").
