Some things like honesty and integrity transcend time, or as you put it, the times.

Harry Truman was, like all presidents, a politician. He was just a man so I won't attempt to confer sainthood upon him but he demonstrated honesty and integrity throughout his tenure. He made mistakes, a big one was his championing of the UN. If he were alive today, he would be appalled about what it has become....a worthless, bloated and corrupt organization.

He was a Democrat but the political chasm between him and Obama is extremely significant. I'm not going to get into the particulars but if you study Truman's history and philosophy, the differences are obvious.

I'll pose just one question. Do you think Obama would have had the courage to approve the dropping of the A bomb on Japan knowing he would take a lot of heat? I don't think Obama has that kind of courage without taking a poll. Of course, that would be somewhat impractical if you're trying to keep it a secret. :>)

I hate to think of the additional casualties we would have taken if someone like Obama were president at the time. Obama is essentially a pacifist just like many who condemned Truman. I'd never depend on him to cover my back in a fight.
